"Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," by legendary American playwright Tennessee Williams, won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1955. It is the story of a Southern family in crisis, focusing on the turbulent relationship of a wife and husband, Maggie "The Cat" and Brick Pollitt, and their interaction with Brick's family over the course of one evening gathering at the family estate in Mississippi, ostensibly to celebrate the birthday of patriarch and tycoon "Big Daddy" Pollitt. In addition to the original Broadway production in 1955, MGM made a film version in 1958, and the play has been revived on Broadway in 1974, 1990, and 2003. Kennedy Center produced it in 2004, and a new, all African American production is set to open on Broadway this October. The play is not simply the story of a dysfunctional Southern family, but a complex examination of isolation, class, and gender in the context of a repressive 1950's patriarchy. Auditions Feb 25 & 26, 2008. Please call the APAC offices at 808-322-9924 for more information.
